Case Study
KamalaSpa
When faced with the challenge to build their dream day spa and salon, the owners of KamalaSpa called on Principal Builders to help them in all aspects of designing and building a truly unique spa and salon located on Union Square in downtown San Francisco.
KamalaSpa, San Francisco
Starting with some conceptual artist renderings, Principal Builders guided the process from initial selection of architects and consultants, to material selections, to final installation of furnishings and finishes. To create this one-of-a-kind spa with fabric walls and ceilings in a commercial highrise, Principal Builders worked with the design consultants, city inspectors and fabric fire testing laboratories to meet the owners' vision and still maintain the fully sprinklered, code-compliant space.
Some other unique features that the owners called upon Principal Builders to procure and implement included a custom fish tank wall, steam showers in treatment rooms, fiber optic stars in the ceiling, hand-carved doors, floating mirrors and floating stone counters in the fabric wall-covered salon, and state-of-the-art air conditioning and exhaust systems to keep the fabric dry in the treatment rooms with the steam showers. The project included a six-station programmable lighting control panel and custom audio throughout.
